If you plan to study at a Canadian educational institution, most foreign nationals must apply for a study permit.

The study permit is a document that is issued that allows foreign nationals to study at designated learning institutions (DLIs) in Canada. Most foreign nationals need a study permit to study in Canada.

In some cases, you do not require a study permit to go to school in Canada:

  1. If the course or program you intend to study is less than 6 months in duration.
  2. If you are a family member or staff of a foreign representative to Canada.
  3. If you are a member of a foreign armed force.

To be eligible to study in Canada:

  • you are enrolled at a designated learning institution (DLI)
  • if you’re coming from outside Canada to study as an international student, your DLI will have to be on the list of DLIs with an approved COVID-19 readiness plan
  • obey the law, have no criminal record and get a police certificate (if required)
  • are in good health and get a medical exam (if required), and
  • prove to an officer that you will leave Canada when your study permit expires
  • prove you have enough money to pay for your:
    • tuition fees
    • living expenses for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada, and
    • return transportation for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada

Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) may also be required if the student is a citizen of a country from which Temporary Resident Visas are required for entry into Canada. A Temporary Resident Visa is not required for citizens of visa exempt countries.

“I have been fortunate to be introduced to Galleon Immigration by a close friend of mine, I was reluctant to go through any agent initially as many of them are sketchy and all about money and not getting the work done. I not only had a positive vibe dealing with Nidhi but got my work done. She is precise and on point when it comes to immigration work. At times it gets irritating when someone asks for a thousand questions but it is something that is necessary to get it done right.
I TOTALLY WOULD RECOMMEND GALLEON IMMIGRATION & REFUGEE SERVICES TO EVERYONE.”
